I'd been stressing a bit about getting my things (5 suitcases and a boxed up bike) from the airport to my temporary apartment, but everything went very smoothly. My new place (pics to come) is great for this first month - modern, SUPER comfy bed and all the amenities I need. The area's not the best (<a href="http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=map+of+577+commercial+road+london+E%60&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=577+Commercial+Rd,+Poplar,+Greater+London+E1+0&gl=uk&ei=OWzKSp6OBpeknQOxv-E-&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1">E1</a>), but I'm able to walk to work and it's not too hard to get into central and west London. So Saturday and Sunday were devoted to settling in and picking up essentials like groceries and a UK-compatible blow dryer and straightener :)<br /><br />I officially kicked things off today with my first day of work and everything went really well. For the most part if was just orientation and catching up with my boss' assistant, but everyone is really friendly and totally willing to help out. It's refreshing to see the Ogilvy culture is consistent and thriving here, which definitely makes it much easier to adjust. I was also able to leave a bit early and managed to knock three big things off my to-do list: set up a new checking/savings account, grab an Oyster card (a refillable tube card...saves you lots of $$) and start my gym membership at <a href="http://www.virginactive.co.uk/Content.aspx">Virgin Active</a> (a lot like Equinox in NYC).<br /><br />Now here's to my computer being set-up tomorrow so I can actually start doing some work! I was so looking forward to this moment, but it was a funny thing how much more I loved everyone I work with that day. Do you know how sometimes you start to really hate your haircut, so you make an appointment, and magically just before the appt date your hair starts to look really good again? It was kind of like that :)<br /><br />But despite the wonderful people and the great time I had drinking lots of beers with them after work Friday night, I know I am ready to go on this journey. I have not been myself for some time now, so I’m looking forward to tackling some key goals over the next three months to get me out of this slump (more to come on that).<br /><br />For now, I send many, many thanks to all of my Ogilvy colleagues and clients.
